Beautiful Lancaster Bomber. Only two airworthy in the world. One in Canada and one in the U.K. The Canadian one is coming to the U.K. for a season so if your lucky you might (in the U.K.) see both of them flying together at some air shows.

I'm also a fan of the Wellington, but it looks there are only two survivors, neither airworthy. The Lancaster, of course, was the only thing about suitable for the Grand Slam, and as innovates as Barnes Wallace was, the service record of Tallboy and Grand Slam Lancasters does tend to demonstrate the Victory Bomber as being a bit unnecessary.

From that era, I don't think I have a definate favourite. But when seeing a Lancaster flanked by a Hurricane and a Spitfire, they come bloody close to my heart.

It's such a mystery people sometimes think I'm a Brit, isn't it?
As an unguarded remark, if your Kinja accurately reflects your name, we have the same last one. I've thought to mention that before, but haven't.

Nothing wrong being a Brit. You can be an honourary Brit or I believe its called, an 'Anglophile' if you choose mate.
I'm sorry. I've been up 40+ hours and I didn't register the last paragraph in relation to Kinja and name. Could also be the half bottle of rioja I've been drinking. I've three nights off and I never sleep the first night. :(

"Linton" as a last name. Was curious if it was yours or that of a semi-fictional alter ego, as it's mine.

My branch have been in the US nearly two centuries, but you're probably an nth cousin of some sort, then.

Mine have trudged around the world many times and always came back to the warm embrace of Britannia.
We nearly ended up in the states. My father was offered a job at Boeing (while he was working for British Aerospace, poaching staff is a big no-no), but he turned it down as although the money was good, it wasn't great.

It's a #planelopnik/#militarylopnik post, more or less, with a focus on what was for a long time the largest conventional bomb put into production. The plane to carry it had to be specially modified. The bomb itself was designed by the same man as the famous bouncing bomb for use against dams.

I heard a little bit about the bomb, the picture was just a joke though. Very interesting. WW2 truly had the most interesting technology and engineers. Guns built into the side of mountains, Dora, the first jets, rockets. All great stuff.

Wonder how much altitude they gained when they dropped that sucker.
